Linkin Blogs

I'm on the Tgirls.com blog again, with some pics from a recent nite at the the T Party at Blue Moon. The focus isn't on me, literally (blame Sparky's new camera) or figuratively, but is as it should be on Jessica Foxx, Sheeba Starr, Carmen Moore, Olivia Love, Morgan Bailey, Evie, Johanna,, Amy Daly, Hazel Tucker, Michelle Austin and all the others sharp looking girls I was there with :)

Buddy System

its been a while since I did a Buddy System post, where I post a pic of me with whoever is featured on Buddy-wood.com. I've already done posts for Amy Daly and Lucia Mathews and Celeste, who have been the last several stars shining in the Wood. But the most recent entry is about the Tranny Awards and shows some of the amazing dancers who performed during it, including Eclair and Aliize, so here are a pair of pics of a pair of of gorgeous and talented buddies of Buddy's, and of mine.

I'm on Scott and Ben's excellent blog again, this time in a post featuring pics by my friend Gio. He is one of my longest term friends (being so careful not to say oldest!) in the scene and has had my back and me in front of his camera for years. Its good to see his good work get its due on their site.

On cue

yet another pool table photo. This time it was the back room at Hamburger Mary's. Chalk it up to my desire to do a different pose, but this time, I stood my ground, instead of staying on the balls :)

Katt's meows

an overdue shout out to one of my long term friends in the scene. Al of Altomic Visuals has been photographing me forever. The one below is from 2002!! Some of the better shots on this blog were done by him. I've done several formal shoots with him and am overdue for another one.

Al is always at the events taking pictures and giving back to the community. He has a good eye, and a better heart and its always a pleasure to run into him when I am out on the prowl.

If you want excellent artistic photographs done by genuinely nice guy, please visit his website. And if you want to see a little of the scene through his eye, visit his flicker page, where you may catch a glimpse of the Katt now and then.

a pic from June 2006, posing on a friend's bike outside the old Yukon Restaurant in Hollywood. A place where the unusual was somehow commonplace.

on a serious note

Once again, the ugly label wars are raging online so I am posting this essay again, for all the good it has ever done to make people realize that labels are for clothes and that it costs nothing to pay others respect. But if a cat has nine lives, there is no reason why my words can't also, so here we go again.

Everyone is so consumed by labels, by what makes a male a male, and a female, a female, and what it means to be attracted to one or the other or both. But ultimately, all of the things that we think of to divide male from female: hair and skin and body size and shape and breasts, are all secondary sexual characteristics, and as such, they differentiate but they don't define. For human beings, there is only really one primary sexual characteristic, and for better or worse, that's the external genitalia. You can talk about genetics and xx and xy and xyy and all the chromosomal variations, but ultimately, how those genes are expressed physically is what counts. Males have penises, female have vaginas

But Male is not man and female is not woman. Your anatomy is not your gender, which is much more of a psychological construct than a physical absolute. Genitals are not what makes a man a man, or woman, a woman. Having a penis doesn't make you a man, or exclude you from being a woman. Your gender is between your ears, not your legs.

Same with homo vs heterosexual. homo=same. hetero=different. In the strict, literal sense of the terms, if you have a penis and your partner has one as well, that is a homosexual act.

But homosexual isn't the same as gay, just like hetero isn't the same as straight. Gay and Straight are social and cultural constructs, not easy absolutes. Being gay or straight is more about who you are attracted to, and why, and how you interact with them, and how you interrelate to the rest of the world. Being "gay" is more of a social political identity than a sexual one, just as being straight is. If an open admitted gay guy becomes celibate, he is still gay. If he sleeps with women, I would argue he is still gay as well. A man who is attracted to a transgendered woman can be straight. but he can't technically claim to be wholly heterosexual.

The term transsexual is an unfortunate one, because unlike homo and heterosexual, being transsexual is not about sex, its about gender. If they would have started with the term transgendered at the outset, instead of it evolving slowly and fitfully into more common usage, there might be a lot less confusion and angst among the transgendered community.

but we can never un-ring the bell as far as the terminology of transsexualism goes, so the term will continue to define gender and to confound how we deal with it.

I think rather than worrying about labels, that you should love who you love, or lust for those who you lust for, and do so proudly, and openly and shrug off those who would try to define or confine you. Sexuality is nothing if not fluid, and too many people are swimming against its current instead of going with the flow.

Peace

Katt's meows

I wanted to give a shout out to my friend Teddy of TeddyBoy Photography. He is an excellent photographer, both from a technical and an artistic perspective. He will tell you how best to pose and then take the best picture of you in that pose. He is always at the events in Long Beach taking pictures and its always a treat to see him there. If you ever want to treat yourself to some really good pictures, give him a try.

FKit seems a lot of people are getting their first look at this blog on this entry, thanks to a very generous and gracious post on the Caramel Tgirl's blog, so I wanted to express my thanks here to her and those visiting from her site, and I added this pic, and link to the front page of the blog, to help people catch more than the tail end of what the Katt dragged in is all about :)

Linkin Blogs

I'm on Britney St Jordan's awesome blog. I had chatted with her a little bit here and there, but only got to meet her at the big Tranny Awards event in Los Angeles. She is as nice as she is sexy and courageous and it was really great to get to know her a little and pose for some pics with her. It was also great that they got shared online at Hung Angels and Hung Devils before she featured this one on her blog.

You may have seen the pic before, but you should read and follow her blog. The entry is a really good write up about the awards and the blog itself shows despite being a star, she is still unassuming and insightful. Or maybe she is a star because of those qualities? In any event, or at any event, I'm looking forward to seeing her again when she moves out here, and you can all look forward to seeing a lot more of her work when she does.

You can't have gratitude without attitude

I have a lot of people in my life whose friendship I'm very thankful for, and this last Thanksgiving, my favorite dish was one friend I don't get to see often enough. Jasmine Jewels.

You may know her for her attitude, as a cougar extraordinaire, or a hot performer or as one of the better TS photographers, or as one of the brave and bawdy voices on twitter. And, while I appreciate and admire and even envy that attitude, my gratitude is more for the smart, caring, generous friend she has been to me for the last several years. The rest is just gravy :)

I'm on Scott and Ben's excellent Tranny Award Nominated blog again. They may not have taken home the trophy this year but they still take the best pictures, and they still take pride in covering all of the TG events here in LA. Until next year, when I am sure they will win, doing such a great job, and having the appreciation of all us here will have to be reward enough for them.

Off Tempo

some pics from the last Friday nite of Sexy Bitch at the Tempo niteclub in Hollywood. That's Aubrey, Eclair and Patricia with me in the first pic and Dianne joining us in the second. Aubrey, the hostess of the club tried to move it from Mondays and from West Hollywood but it never really took hold at is new place and time. Its tough to get a new club going in LA, since its such a big impersonal city and time is often out before the word is. I still get people asking me about other clubs that closed years ago.

Someone as beautiful and talented as Aubrey won't ever be without a venue. She is back to performing at Goddess, sharing the stage with Leslie Munroy, and plans are under way for her to be walking a new beat very soon.

Kattacombs

a pic from 2007, outside the infamous Las Vegas Lounge. An old school t-girl bar, its not glitzy or glamorous, but its got a gritty genuineness that I really like. Just the right amount of wrong as the commercial says these days. I've been there several times and have only had fun there and never had any drama. Some people may call it a dive, but I always enjoy taking the plunge there.
