Orange...

..you glad I went to the Oxwood and saw my knock out friends Aubrey and Vanessa? In addition to headlining at the Oxwood,  Aubrey is the host of  Transfixed, the new Thursday night at the beloved old Club Cobra, in North Hollywood.  Its's doors have been open  for a couple of months now and is doing well, with good crowds and a great show.  Vanessa is a great performer in her own right and  is one of  Aubrey's Femme Fatale's, who help everyone at Cobra to have a good time by circulating with drink specials.   If you were a fan of the old Goddess at Cobra, you really should check this new club at its old night and venue soon.  This is not a knock on Goddess which  is still going strong on Monday's at MJ's in Silverlake, .hosted by the ever gorgeous Leslie Munroy.

Au revoir Angelina

In French, Au revoir doesn't mean good bye, it means until I see you again.  Sadly, my friend Angelina Torres is moving from LA to Chicago.  While this is a good step for her and for her career, its a sad one for me and all the friends she made here in LA.  While I will miss seeing her as often as I have since she moved here, I know we'll stay in touch and I''ll see her  again whenever she visits.

Falling Between Two Stools

I have to confess, I wasn't familiar with this expression and stumbled on while I was trying to find something cute or clever to say about this picture.  But I was struck by it and how it seems to apply to me and my life, which is complex, to say the least.  I'm always trying to be too many things to too many people and never sure if success at one isn't somehow failure to another. But if failing is falling, success is standing and I seem to manage to stay on my feet.  As I did here, despite adequate seating, at the Oxwood on a fun Saturday back in September.

Some great pics from last year's Ms Bienestar pageant are up on Scott and Ben's excellent blog.  Bienestar is a tremendous community service organization, that provides important care and counseling and support to the Latin LGBT community.  In addition to all their other good works, they put on an annual pageant, which I always try to attend, even though its done entirely in Spanish and I only hablo un poco :)  It doesn't matter because the  transgender community here in LA is  is a shared one, even when  languages are not.

Rest in Peace

a pic in front of my long time friend Tom's beloved classic Porsche.  He was well known and respected in the online TG community as LAGent.  Sadly, he recently suddenly  passed away a few weeks after this picture and I think this was the last nite I saw him,  He was the consummate gentleman, who I could always count on for a bent ear or a kind word,  and the diet coke, he unfailingly would get me without asking every time we ran into each other.   We had worked together behind the scenes for the last few years on a project to help memorialize girls who pass too soon, and now, he too has done so.  He is well remembered and will be surely  missed.

Crowning Around

Nite Spots

just a quick pic from a fun Friday at the Palms.  They've really worked hard to improve this venue, with new decor, better seating and an expanded show, while keeping the same low cover and same friendly, generous bartenders..  This hard work has paid off, with bigger and better crowds.  If you have never been, now is the time to give it a try.  If you haven't been for a while, now is the time to pay it another visit. Hands down. you will have fun!

Trans Wednesdays

there is a new TG nite in the LA area.  Wednesdays at the Oxwood, hosted by my friend Naomi.  I went for the first nite and had such a great time, I've been back there at least 3 more times.  Causal, with no show, and cozy, with no cover, its just a friendly midweek place to meet or make friends.
